I created a wall photo using the latest slogan of the Department of Tourism “It’s more fun in the Philippines” to promote Tokneneng as one of the popular street food sold in the Philippines. 🙂 I created my version by uploading an original background photo at morefunmaker.com. You can search my entry here.
Tokneneng is usually peddled by ambulant vendors along with other variety of street food such as kwek-kwek (smaller version of tokneneng), fishballs, and squidballs.
You can create your own by visiting the site I mentioned above. Have fun!
Tokneneng is deep fried pre-boiled chicken egg with crispy orange coating.
The orange coating is a mixture of flour, baking powder, food coloring (orange), and small amount of water. In a bowl, mixed all the ingredients well and evenly coat each egg before you deep fry.
Place them in a bowl with paper towel to absorb excess oil.
Serve with your favorite vinegar and chili dip.
Tokneneng is simply the bigger version of kwek-kwek (quail egg), also a popular street food. At least a couple of mobile carts selling tokneneng, kwek-kwek, fishballs and squidballs are found within the neighborhood, they also carry the best dip sauce for tokneneng. 🙂
